Rakhi Sawant is one unique girl who manages to create controversy no matter what she does. She is more famous for her sizzling controversies than for the roles that she has played. But her controversies are really what people crave for. Her fans go gaga over her precisely because of her unique penchant for making the news for all the wrong reasons. And the juiciest of her controversies, that had all of India agog, happened in June last year. The occasion wasMika's birthday party and Rakhi happened to be a guest there. The sheer beauty and the sexiness that flimsily dressed Rakhi exuded at the party became too much to bear for the birthday boy, who then grabbed Rakhi roughly and planted a long and hard kiss on her full red lips.

Rakhi happens to be quite outgoing by nature, but she is certainly not the kind of woman who will take lying down such outrageous behavior. She extricated herself from Mika's firm grip and started coming down on him like a ton of bricks. In a no-nonsense tone she asked Mika to promptly apologize. But the birthday boy refused. He claimed that he had taken the kiss as a birthday present from her side. Rakhi, however, was not amused by his antics. She decided to file a police complaint against Mika. The dispute was telecast live around the country on more than half a dozen TV channels. The whole nation saw Rakhi Sawant in the new avatar of a fighter for justice. Earlier we knew her only as a beautiful actress who performed sexy dance numbers in music videos and films, now we knew her as a woman who was capable of fighting for her dignity and rights.

Well, that was about Rakhi's juiciest controversy, and now it is time for something about the girl herself. Rakhi did not have to venture far from her home in order to make her tryst with Bollywood. She was born in the tinsel town, in Bombay, in 1970. Her father was ACP with Bombay Police, and when Rakhi decided to join the film industry she faced some opposition from her conservative family members. But when she insisted on having it her way, her cop father relented and that paved way for a new star to be born on the firmament of Bollywood. Rakhi attained critical acclaim with the release of her music video, a remix album called Pardesia. It was her sizzling song and dance routine of Pardesia that gave her the tag of an Item Girl. In a spate of subsequent releases Rakhi further strengthened her position as the number one Item Girl in the industry.

In addition to Item numbers she has also played full-fledged roles in numerous Bollywood flicks. Her role as Mini in Main Hoon Na (2004) came in for lots of critical acclaim. Masti released in the same year saw her playing the role of a sexy siren. But it is her item numbers that are behind most of her popularity. Such is the popularity of her dances that around the country packed theaters break into an explosion of catcalls and whistles the moment the sexy Rakhi appears on screen and starts swaying her hips to the tune of a raunchy number. Today she happens to be at the top of her career. Her importance in the Bollywood can be gauged from the way the bigwig directors and producers lined up to take her side when Mika planted that infamous kiss on her lips.

Referring to that incident the top Bollywood director, Mahesh Bhatt is know to have said, "I think irrespective of the image a person puts forth, you can't devoid her of her legitimate rights of not getting assaulted or smooched without her consent." Quite rightly said Mr. Bhatt. Mika had no business taking advantage of Rakhi's outgoing ways. It may come as shock but these days Rakhi is hooked with a steady boyfriend. It is likely that they might tie the knot soon and her party image may go downhill. For Rakhi's sake we can only wish that whenever she decides to get married, she would be able to do so without making the news for a wedding mishap.
